"We believe people should not change their lifestyles to give back, instead, it is businesses who should evolve and change to make our human existence responsible and sustainable for centuries to come" says Francisco Diez, founder of Free World United, a cause-focused online company that allows its customers to donate to charities simply by purchasing its products, in this case, graphic t-shirts. He adds "There is a missing link between consumers and non-profits and we want to be that link". Free World United wants to create a world where our everyday purchases are giving back to charities and funding their causes.
The company was founded by three brothers who were inspired by the Galapagos Islands. "We feel it is our duty to protect and care for this magical place we consider our second home" says Eduardo Diez, the youngest founder.
Helping the Galapagos was the spark but it wasn't until Francisco saw his path on a fortune cookie, that the idea of Free World United took shape. His fortune read:
"Doing what you like is freedom, liking what you do is happiness"
Francisco quit his job and decided to pursue his passion for art and design as the means to raise funds for charities. With his two brothers on board, they agreed that graphic t-shirts were the ideal product for their concept. "Graphic t-shirts are the universal canvas for self-expression and we believe that self-expression, who you are, your lifestyle, unchanged should help save our planet" illustrates Fernando, the middle sibling.
Here is how Free World United works:
Every dollar earned is a dollar that gives back. Free World United donates 10% of all graphic t-shirt purchases and $10 for every Cause-Specific t-shirt.
Their business model defies traditional philanthropy. "We believe that companies should give back not because they have excess cash from huge profits, but because every sale is made possible by a healthy human society. And what's a healthy society without a healthy planet. This is why our donations are generated at the point of sale" explains Francisco.
Using only their savings, the three brothers hope to start something that can truly make a significant impact on the way we live for ourselves and for our planet.
Francisco keeps his fortune in his wallet as a sign of good things to come.
